You might assume that a company named Buffoonery Factory would produce some pretty out-there stuff — and you’d be right.
“[We] expend way too much time and energy coming up with strange ideas, and on the rarest-of-rare occasions we actually come up with an idea that we both believe is a good one,” says Hans Reichstetter, who co-founded the company with his twin brother, Karl.
In 2012, the Reichstetter brothers launched a Kickstarter project for the Griz Coat, a faux-fur grizzly bear jacket they had originally conceptualized as a Halloween costume. When it raised 1,160% of its original goal — and caught the eye of The Huffington Post — the brothers knew they were on to something. They’ve since launched projects for iterations like the Panda Coat and the Griz Rug.
The Reichstetters' most recent creation is the Unicorn Coat — “because no one ever said the world had too much magic.”
How do they come up with this stuff? The requirement for any project, says Hans, is that “the two of us need to really like it. It sounds simple, and it is. If one of us doesn't like the idea, we won't pursue it.”
It's a rule that makes sense when you consider their creative motto: “Have some fun — with a side of work.”
